I’m pretty excited about the work I’ve been doing co-coordinating the #NOMORERI Tweet Chat Series on healthy relationships and dating violence. The online events have been part of the statewide (RI) campaign for Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month (TDVAPM), and they’re in response to alarming stats like those showing that 1 in 3 adolescents in the US is a victim of physical, sexual, emotional, or verbal abuse from a partner. I hope a diverse group of participants join us tomorrow, Friday, February 22, for the 3rd and final “chat” happening from 2-4 PM (EST).
Like the first two, tomorrow’s discussion will be led by a dating violence survivor who will tell her story, answer questions and, in general, represent Sisters Overcoming Abusive Relationships (SOAR). Other participants will be staff (like me) from Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence (RICADV) – the lead group and organizers of the Tweet Chat Series – as well as employees and volunteers from RICADV’s six domestic violence agencies and RICADV/TDVAPM partners and collaborating organizations.
But the conversations are happening online because everyone is encouraged to participate! In particular, we encourage young adults (teens and college students), parents of young adults and children who are dating, those who work with youth and people with their own stories or questions to join in!
