Venus Sings Radio on WRIU: Next Up on Saturday, August 31, 2013

Slide2Okay, okay. Venus Sings Radio is usually on the 4th Saturday of every month, but this month it’s going down on the 5th. Tune in tomorrow. Saturday, August 31, to hear reggae, r & b, hip hop, global grooves and more. Music will be spun/selected by me, Reza Rites / Venus Sings / DJ Reza Wreckage and, as usual, all of the tunes will be featuring or exclusively performed by women. I hope you’ll join me…

VENUS SINGS RADIO
on VOICES OF WOMEN

Saturday, August 31, 2013
9:00 – 11:00 AM
listen: 90.3 FM / http://www.wriu.org

Wrote a blog post for the Women’s Fund of RI, which came out yesterday. I’ve gotten some nice feedback so far, but I am wondering what my Tumblr friends think. Read it by clicking here; below is an excerpt.

As for #ThanksMiley, #SolidarityisforWhiteWomen, #WhyWhitePeopleRiot and #BlackPowerisforBlackMen, these are about people of color and women of color – particularly the Black Twitterati – being fed up.

“In the case of #ThanksMiley, this is about people being tired of cultural and historical storytellers misrepresenting and taking credit for the origins of art and political movements, aka cultural appropriation (or cultural misappropriation)."
